Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many persons of pensionable age there are at present in Scotland; and by what amount he expects this figure to increase in each of the years between 1975 and 1980.

The latest available estimate of the population of pensionable age in Scotland is at 30th June 1973. The following table shows this figure together with the projected population of pensionable age each year 1974 to 1980, and the expected increase or decrease in each year:
