HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 cc181-2W
Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in what circumstances can a person previously in receipt of lower standard of occupation allowance or entitled to this allowance become disqualified from entitlement.

Mr. O'Malley

Title would cease if a person returned to his pre-Service occupation, or qualified for the 100 per cent. rate of war disablement pension or increased his current earnings to the level of his pre-Service occupation.

Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in the United Kingdom have been disallowed their lower standard of occupation allowance for war services, owing to their present earnings being higher than their pre-Service occupation; and if she will consider introducing legislation to increase the differentials.

Mr. O'Malley

There were 513 cancellations, excluding cessation on death, in the 12 months ending March 1974; it is not possible to say how many of these were due to increased earnings. The allowance is paid under Article 19 of the Royal Warrant. The maximum rate was increased on 22nd July to £6.56 per week.
