HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 cc111-2W
Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what provision is made for compensating the dependants of Service men or of civil servants who may be disabled as the result of injuries received during the present emergency in Cyprus.

Mr. William Rodgers

Provision is already made forex gratia payments of compensation to the dependants of Service men or of civil servants who are disabled through injuries sustained overseas as the result of war or of terrorist or other politically inspired activity.

The scheme which was announced on 24th July 1967—[Vol. 751, c. 1–6]—allowed payments of up to £5,000 according to the degree of disability suffered. Rates of compensation have recently been reviewed and the maximum sum payable for 100 per cent. disablement is now £10,900. The new rates will apply to cases of disablement which may arise as a direct result of the present emergency in Cyprus.
