asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about Her Majesty's Government's policy towards the CENTO pact.

Mr. Ennals

Her Majesty's Government attach great importance to the preservation of the independence and territorial integrity of the member States of CENTO, and regard the alliance as making a significant contribution to the stability and security of the area. They also support the work of the alliance in advancing the economic well-being of the peoples of the region.
