Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what was the proportion of timber and wood pulp requirements which Great Britain has imported during each of the last 10 years; and what were the total import costs involved.

Figures for consumption are not available prior to 1965 for timber and prior to 1967 for wood pulp. In subsequent years imports accounted for about three-quarters to four-fifths of timber consumption and nine-tenths of wood pulp consumption. Following is the information on the value of imports:
