HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 c41W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in the light of the Chancellor's recent statement, what is the percentage reduction in rate payments which will be enjoyed by the ratepayers of Purbeck District Council and Weymouth and Portland District Council respectively; from what date the reductions will have effect; and for what period they are guaranteed.

Mr. Oakes

Based on the average rateable value of domestic property within the areas of Purbeck District Council and of Weymouth and Portland District Council, the reduction is estimated at about 15 per cent. and 7 per cent. respectively. Councils have been asked to make a refund or adjust payments due, if possible not later than 1st October or, failing this, within the current rate year. The scheme applies to 1974–5 only.
