§ Mr. David Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the National Chamber of Trade seeking rate rebates for small businesses hit by the increase in rates this year; and what is his policy theretowards.
§ Mr. OakesI have sent the hon. Member copies of the relevant correspondence. The National Chamber of Trade has also written to me on 15th July and I shall be replying shortly. My right hon. Friend's policy is that where the owner of a small business is eligible for a rebate on the domestic part of his premises he should apply immediately. He has no plans to extend rate rebates to non-domestic premises.
