HC Deb 29 July 1974 vol 878 c66W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will set up refresher courses for trained conservators who service Great Britain's museum collections in view of the changes and progress in conservation techniques;

(2) if he will set up short courses in conservation techniques in view of the shortage of trained conservators to service Great Britain's museum collections.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

The setting up of short courses in conservation techniques, whether for initial or refresher training, is primarily the responsibility of the employers of the staff concerned. Individual museum authorities or groups are being encouraged to establish effective links with further education colleges and polytechnics which can in suitable cases organise courses to supplement the training resources of museums and galleries.
