§ Mr. Adam Butlerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the 35W average current cost, in terms of subsidy through taxation and rates, of a newly-built council house; and how this compares with the cost of newly-built privately mortgaged accommodation in terms of tax relief on the average mortgage.
§ Mr. Kaufman; I have been considering how best to help the hon. Member but have had to conclude that valid comparisons cannot readily be made because of the difficulty of making assumptions about the periods for which assistance would be provided and the sums which would attract assistance during those periods.
