§ 36. Mr. Brewisasked the Secretary of State for Energy how much aid has been received by the British coal industry from the European Community institutions since 1st April current; and whether he will itemise each such receipt stating the amount and purpose for which it was given.
§ Mr. VarleyAid from the Community is calculated on a calendar year basis. Figures for 1973 are not yet finalised, but it is estimated that the total sum to which we shall be entitled for the year will be in the order of £3 million. The bulk of this will be readaptation grants against the payments made by the Government and the industry to redundant and transferred mine workers; and the remainder, grants for coal research.
