asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will publish a detailed breakdown of the various means by which public transport, both passenger and goods, is subsidised, including subsidies on capital expenditure, and give these figures for the financial years since 1970–71.

Support to public transport provided by my Department during the period has been as follows:

any buildings to be kept safe; but the timing and extent of the use of such powers have many important implications and would require very careful consideration.
