HC Deb 26 July 1974 vol 877 c595W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether it is his intention to support with the equity votes of Her Majesty's Government the proposal for Brown Boveri to acquire a controlling interest in George Kent Limited, and if he will set out in the OFFICIAL REPORT the initial cost of the CRC investment in George Kent, at 1974 prices, and the valuation placed upon that investment (a) at current market prices and (b) by Brown Boveri.

Mr. Benn

I am not in a position at this stage to make a statement on Government policy in relation to the Brown Boveri proposals. The Government holding was acquired in 1968 at a cost of £6.5 million. The current valuation can be assessed from published quotations; no exact valuation of the Brown Boveri offer can be made.
