HC Deb 26 July 1974 vol 877 c587W
Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the research group on disarmament set up under the direction of Professor Hedley Bull, by the last Labour Government, still exists as a distinct unit; and, if so, what issues is it currently studying.

Mr. Ennals

The Arms Control and Disarmament Research Unit, which was originally set up nearly 10 years ago, is still in being, as a distinct unit. The work of the unit is necessarily confidential. However, one of the subjects to which it has been giving particular attention this year is that of preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, with particular reference to the Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty due to be held in 1975.
