HC Deb 25 July 1974 vol 877 cc521-2W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what recent interruptions there have been in the availability of sugar to the housewife in Cornwall; and whether he is satisfied that there is now enough sugar for all foreseeable needs.

Mr. Bishop

We are aware that in parts of Cornwall and elsewhere in South-West England shops have run out of sugar, despite the fact that deliveries have been maintained at almost the level of the corresponding period in 1973, when demand was exceptionally high. With our encouragement the refining companies and merchants are co-operating in emergency measures to increase supplies.
