HC Deb 25 July 1974 vol 877 cc529-30W
Dr. Winstanley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to restrict, regulate and control the keeping of unusual and potentially dangerous pets.

Dr. Summerskill

My right hon. Friend has no present plans for introducing legislation of the kind proposed. The Animals Act 1971 has clarified the liability at civil law for damage done by dangerous animals, and it is an offence at common law to cause a public nuisance by keeping animals to the danger of the public.
