§ Mr. ArmstrongUnder the Education Act 1944 my Department considers specifications and plans for new buildings proposed by local education authorities, in relation to standards prescribed in regulations made under the Act; approval, in this respect, was given in relation to the buildings in question in 1962 and 1957 respectively. These regulations do not deal with the details of construction, which are seen as a matter for the local authority, having regard to performance requirements and standard building practices then current as expressed, for example, by British Standards specifications and modes of practice.
