HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 c467W
49. Mr. Jeffrey Archer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his policy towards planning national transport.

Mr. Mulley

The Government have shown in the provisions of the Railways Bill that they attach importance to the development of public transport. I announced on 17th June, in reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Rhondda (Mr. Jones)—[Vol. 875, c.68.9]—my proposals for the national road network. At a more local level, county councils, which are now responsible for the planning of transport provision in their areas, are submitting their transport policies and programmes this month.
