HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 c507W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Overseas Development what further plans she has to provide help in the continuing emergency programme for the Sahel countries in their need of food, transport and money.

Mr. William Price

Her Majesty's Government will continue to play a full part in the relief measures and is in very close touch with the Sahelian Relief Organisation Office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation which is providing all donors with regular reports of the situation and details of specific needs as they are identified.

This special office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation is currently discussing with major donors, including Britain, plans for assessing emergency needs for the area during 1975. We shall take part in this planning process and decide in the light of it in what specific ways we can best help.

We intend to concentrate some of our funds on the provision of vehicles for the internal distribution of food and medical supplies next year.
