HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 cc484-5W
Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the best estimate available to him of the number of dwellings in Scotland which at present (a) lack an internal toilet, (b) lack a fixed bath or shower, (c) lack running hot water, and (d) are below the tolerable standard.

Mr. William Ross

The 1971 Census showed that in Scotland 122,780 households lacked exclusive use of an internal w.c., 204,410 lacked a fixed bath or shower and 119,890 had no hot water supply. About 180,000 houses are thought to be currently below the tolerable standard.
