Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will give an assurance that no action will be taken by the Government on any EEC secondary legislation which has not passed the Scrutiny Committee during a period when Parliament is dissolved.

Mr. Hattersley

During a period when Parliament is dissolved, the Government would as far as possible continue to act in accordance with the assurances given by my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council on 2nd May—[Vol. 872, c. 525]—and my own comments in the debate on Europe on 11th June.—[Vol. 874, c. 1428–9.]
