§ 49. Mr. Alexander Wilsonasked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will make a statement about aid to Tanzania following her recent visit.
§ Mrs. HartDuring my visit to Tanzania I had discussions with President Nyerere and a number of his Ministers. We have agreed on a new aid programme of £11 million. Of this, £10 million will be capital aid, concentrated upon rural development, and £1 million will be technical assistance. Capital aid will be 45 per cent. grant and 55 per cent. loan, interest-free and repayable over 25 years with seven years' grace. This represents a renewal of an aid relationship between Britain and Tanzania which has not existed for the last nine years.
