HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 cc394-5W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider holding an inquiry into the need for expansion of the SSEB generating capacity.

Mr. William Ross

It is for the Scottish electricity boards to plan and submit to me their proposals for future generating capacity. All such proposals require my approval and I do not authorise the boards to start construction until I am satisfied as to need.

Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received regarding the plans of the SSEB to increase generating capability by building power stations at Carriden, Torness and Chapeldonan.

Mr. William Ross

The numbers of timeous representations which I received in connection with the South of Scotland Electricity Board's applications, under Section 2 of the Electric Lighting Act 1909, to construct power stations at Carriden, Torness and Chapeldonan were 15, 27, including one petition, and 48. including one petition, respectively. Two objections to Carriden and two to Torness were subsequently withdrawn.
