§ Mr. Rifkindasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what reply he has given to the appeal to him by the Order of Christian Unity for certain assurances as regards the future of religious education at Scottish schools.
§ Mr. William RossI have noted the terms of the resolution passed at the order's recent symposium. Successive Government's have accepted that they 389W should not intervene in the provision of religious instruction in schools. The order was so advised in December and informed that the Consultative Committee on the Curriculum, in pursuance of a recommendation made in the Millar Report on Moral and Religious Education, had decided to establish a standing committee to promote curriculum development in religious education. In doing so, it proposes to maintain close liaison with the Churches in Scotland.
