HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 cc361-2W
Mr. Peter Morrison

asked the Prime Minister how many Royal Commissions Her Majesty's Government have set up since 28th February; how many people he has appointed to these commissions, divided as far as possible on a political basis; and what is the estimated cost to the country of such commissions.

The Prime Minister

One, the Royal Commission on the Press, which has 11 members, including the chairman. Their political views are their own and were not among the criteria for appointment. Two further Royal Commissions—on Standards of Conduct in Public Life and on the Distribution of Income and Wealth—have been announced but have not yet been formally established. The chairmen, respectively, will be Lord Salmon and Lord Diamond. It is not yet possible to give the estimated cost of these three commissions.
