§ Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government will seek the setting up of a United Nations inquiry into atrocities committed by terrorists against Africans of all races in Rhodesia on the lines of the inquiry instituted into alleged Portuguese atrocities in Mozambique.
§ Miss Joan LestorAny inquiry would clearly have to examine accusations which have been made against both sides in Rhodesia. However, while I deeply deplore acts of violence against civilians, I do not think that such an initiative would be useful at this stage.
§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has noted that the Security Council's Committee on Sanctions against Rhodesia has expressed concern about reports of plans for external financing 339W of an iron and steel expansion scheme in the territory, in breach of UN sanctions; and what information about this has been received by Her Majesty's Government.
§ Miss Joan LestorThese reports are being investigated by the United Nations Sanctions Committee in the light of information provided by theSunday Times and passed on by Her Majesty's Government. We are investigating also possible breaches of domestic sanctions controls.
