victed prisoners, eight detainees and 14 people awaiting trial in custody reported incidents of assault by fellow detainees or prisoners. In two cases the injuries sustained resulted in death and police investigation is not yet completed in either case. Two of those in custody suffered fractured jaw bones and 64 of them sustained injuries of a minor nature, for example, cuts, bruises and abrasions. Nine of those injured in this period have lodged claims for compensation alleging assault by other prisoners or detainees. Disciplinary proceedings were conducted by prison governors in 27 cases, and 25 prisoners were found guilty of offences relating to these incidents.
