HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 c311W
Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will consider the possibility of a national energy policy and a planning body to co-ordinate expenditure on fuels and their development in relation to one another.

Mr. Varley

National energy policy is necessarily implemented through individual decisions taken within a coherent framework. My recent statements on nuclear reactor systems for electricity generation and on United Kingdom offshore oil and gas policy, the interim report of the coal industry examination and my proposals on energy conservation reflect this integrated approach. The functions referred to are appropriately carried out within my Department.
