§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total amount paid in corporation tax by the pharmaceutical industry in the years 1970 to 1973, inclusive.
§ Dr. GilbertI regret that I do not have information for the pharmaceutical industry as such. For the chemical, oil and allied trades as a whole—Orders IV and V of the 1968 Standard Industrial Classification—the estimated corporation tax charged was £106 million for 1968, £123 million for 1969 and £107 million for 1970, the latest year for which reliable estimates are available.
