asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give a general direction to the National Coal Board to ensure that a proportion of proven coal reserves in coal finds will be sterilised for purposes of minimising subsidence.

No. The NCB already takes appropriate steps, including the sterilisation of coal, to control subsidence.
