HC Deb 22 July 1974 vol 877 c331W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will make a statement on the proposals for joint appointments at the Edinburgh Centre of the Civil Service College.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The Civil Service College and the University of Strathclyde have agreed that Professor Lewis Gunn, at present Professor of Administration at the University of Strathclyde, shall become Civil Service Professor of Administration in the University of Strathclyde and devote half his time to duties in the Edinburgh Centre of the Civil Service College with the costs being appropriately divided. The appointment takes effect from the beginning of the next academic session in October.

There have also been two additional appointments of lecturers by the Civil Service College and the University of Strathclyde in Personnel Management and Economics, which also take effect next session.

These joint appointments mark a useful step forward in the collaboration between the college and the university which will, it is hoped, bring benefits to both institutions.

The earlier proposal for an appointment by the Civil Service College and the University of Edinburgh to a joint Chair in Public Administration has unfortunately had to be abandoned because of the university's lack of funds to meet its part of the cost.
