HC Deb 19 July 1974 vol 877 cc287-8W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the budgeted expenditure by his Department in 1974–75 for work on the reduction of aircraft noise, excluding sums provided for the RB211 programme.

Mr. Meacher

Budgeted expenditure by Her Majesty's Government for 1974–75 on programmes of general research on aircraft noise including engine and airframe aspects, together with a related examination of operational procedures, is expected to be about £1.7 million.

In addition, a new noise test facility has recently been completed at the National Gas Turbine Establishment at a cost of approximately £2 million.

Her Majesty's Government also expect to contribute about £0.8 million during 1974–75 towards the costs of programmes in industry aimed at demonstrating the technology which could be applied to future engines, including quieter versions of the M45H and RB211 engines.
