HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 c249W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what proposals he has made to implement the recommendations of the Vernon Committee on blind and partially-sighted children; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will make proposals designed to ensure that a greater proportion of blind and partially-sighted children are enabled to live at home during the period of their education than do so by the system of special schools currently in existence;

(3) if he will propose a system of integrated education for visually handicapped children so that they benefit from education alongside sighted children.

Mr. Armstrong

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on 13th June—[Vol. 874, c.612.]—to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Swindon (Mr. Stoddart). The proposed regional conferences will no doubt consider the recommendations about children living at home as well as those for integrated education.
