asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many non-teaching posts in Scotland were held by certificated teachers in the primary, secondary and further education sectors, respectively, during each of the last three years for which figures are available.

Precise information is not available; but it is estimated that the proportions of teachers holding promoted posts in the primary, secondary and further education sectors fall within the ranges 18–22 per cent., 45–50 per cent. and 20–25 per cent. respectively.
