HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 cc255-6W
Mr. Newton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has about the number of privately owned or operated sewage treatment plants in Essex and throughout the country; what statutory or other provision exists for making sure that such plants do not represent a danger to the public; and whether he is satisfied with those arrangements.

Mr. Kaufman

If a structural examination of any of their buildings is required, it is for local authorities to decide whether to close the building or to take temporary safeguarding measures to allow it to remain in use meanwhile. Their decision does not have to be reported to the Department.
