HC Deb 18 July 1974 vol 877 cc250-1W
Mr. Kelley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of registered disabled persons in employment in the Doncaster travel-to-work area; and what percentage of the total number of insured workers employed in the district this represents.

Mr. Harold Walker

At the annual count in April 1974, 3,246 people in the Doncaster travel-to-work area were registered under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act 1944. Of these, 560–17.25 per cent. of those registered—were known to be unemployed. The disabled people known to be unemployed represent 10.4 per cent. of the total number of workers on the unemployment register in the travel-to-work area in April 1974 (5,381). Of the registered disabled people not known to be unemployed, most were probably in employment but it is impossible to give a specific figure. Consequently it is impossible to express this as a percentage of the total number of insured workers employed in the area.
