Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the rates of pay of civilians employed at the Simonstown base.

The Ministry of Defence employs 14 locally engaged civilians on the staff of the Senior British Naval Officer South Africa in Simonstown. The rates of pay are as follows:

the importance of the Hydrographic Service in support of the national economy is fully recognised, but as the service is being examined as part of the Defence Review I cannot, at this stage, add to the information already given to the House.
