HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 c206W
Mr. Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department will advise those responsible that new main roads should not be surfaced with ridged concrete where they are near to substantial housing areas; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Carmichael

My Department have already decided for the present not to use grooved concrete surfaces on motorways and trunk roads where traffic speeds and volumes are most likely to cause annoyance from surface noise.
