asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement about the proposals for a common energy policy recently approved by the European Commission.

Mr. Varley

The Commission's proposals have been forwarded to the Council of Ministers who will have a preliminary discussion of them at their meeting on 22nd-23rd July.
