HC Deb 16 July 1974 vol 877 cc64-5W
23. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimates are available of the number of people qualifying for supplementary benefits who are not drawing them, and whether in conjunction with the local authorities she will organise a house-to-house publicity campaign to find in their own homes the needy people who are not applying for available help.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

No such estimates are currently available. There is already extensive and continuing publicity designed to ensure that people who may be entitled to supplementary benefit are encouraged to claim. Neither my Department nor, I am sure, local authorities have the facilities to undertake house-to-house visits to increase take-up.
