HC Deb 16 July 1974 vol 877 cc93-4W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many 2½p coins are still in circulation; and when he will finally decide about their withdrawal from circulation.

Mr. Dell

The number in active circulation is not known, but there are estimated to be just under 200 million outside the Mint. The position will be kept under review, but the coin will be retained as legal tender for at least another year.
