§ Mr. ArmstrongIn the year ended 31st January 1974 the number of newly trained teachers appointed to the maintained primary and secondary schools, at some 38,000, represented about 90 per cent. of the students successfully completing teacher training courses in 1973. It is not known how many of the remainder took teaching posts outside the maintained schools, in this country or abroad; nor, consequently, how many decided not to enter the profession at all.
