HC Deb 15 July 1974 vol 877 cc45-6W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many hotels have been inspected under the new fire regulations to the latest available date; what percentage this is of the total to be inspected; and how many hotels have been compulsorily closed pending alterations.

Dr. Summerskill

By 31st December 1973 fire authorities in England and Wales had inspected 9,870 hotels and boarding-houses, that is to say, 13 per cent. of the total number of premises estimated to be involved. I regret that the information sought in the last part of the Question is not available, as the responsibility is that of the fire authorities.
