HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 cc539-40W
33. Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what further action he is contemplating to deter husbands from criminally assaulting their wives.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

This is a complex subject. My right hon. Friend is not satisfied that there is any action that we could appropriately take at present that would deter husbands from criminal assaults, but, as the hon. Member will know, a Select Committee is to be set up in the autumn to look into the problem. If the hon. Member has a particular point in mind perhaps she will let me know.
