§ 36. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science on what date he received a communication from the Director of Education of the 547W London borough of Newham sent under date 3rd July regarding the Pay Board's Advisory Report on London weighting; what was the nature of this communication; what reply he has sent; and whether he will publish details of these two communications.
§ Mr. Gerry FowlerMy right hon. Friend received on 4th July a letter expressing the view that there should be a London weighting of equal amount in each of the 32 boroughs. He has replied that there are differing views among local authorities on this question. So far as teachers are concerned, this must be resolved within the Burnham Committees. The present position is that the teachers have rejected a Management Panel offer of £325 in ILEA and £200 in the outer boroughs. My right hon. Friend does not propose to publish this correspondence.
