HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 cc574-5W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will take action to extend the time limit for the completion of work qualifying for housing improvement grants in those districts of Humberside where sudden demands for building work arose from the explosion at Flixborough on 1st June.

Mr. John Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will reconsider the time limit on improvement grants where the position has been affected by the need for local builders to be diverted to emergency work caused by the explosion at Flixborough on 1st June.

Mr. Freeson

I regret that no concession can be made in these cases beyond that already announced by my right hon. Friend on 30th April. I hope, however, that the local authorities concerned will be as helpful as possible in applying the advice in DOE Circular 87/74 about the arrangements for terminating the 75 per cent. grants.
