HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 cc581-2W
Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if it is his policy to encourage development corporations, like the Central Lancashire New Town Corporation, to build houses more sparsely than local authorities in similar out-town estates.

Mr. Oakes

My right hon. Friend is currently reviewing the new town policy and will of course consider each case upon its merits.

Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in the Ingol 61 application of the Central Lancashire New Town Development Corporation, the principle of social differences implied between the lower densities of houses for sale as against houses for rent is his official policy.

Mr. Oakes

I do not wish to anticipate my right hon. Friend's judgment of this case by stating in advance the weight which he will give to any one of the many factors which must be taken into account. If my hon. Friend wishes to let me have in writing his comments on the advertised proposals for this scheme we will gladly take them into account.
