HC Deb 11 July 1974 vol 876 cc557-8W
Mr. David Stoddart

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether area electricity boards in England and Wales intend to increase tariffs for monthly-billed consumers.

Mr. Varley

The 12 area electricity boards in England and Wales notified the Price Commission of their intention to increase the tariffs to monthly-billed consumers which apply to the larger industrial commercial consumers. With the Government's agreement they will be increasing these tariffs towards the end of July. It is expected that this will mean increases of 4 per cent. to 6 per cent. on the May 1974 fuel inclusive price for the majority of the consumers concerned. For a small proportion of consumers, however, the increase will be 6 per cent.-9 per cent. and for others below 4 per cent. The increases will vary between the boards which will announce the full details as soon as possible.
