asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the reduction in investment expected as a consequence of the extra corporation tax to be introduced due (1) to the 52 per cent. rate, and (2) to the 42 per cent. rate.

In the short term, changes in the level of company taxation have only a marginal effect on the level of investment. In the longer term business men look to the prospective growth of demand for their products.
