HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 cc524-5W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many cases of swine vesicular disease have occurred in Scotland since all restrictions relating to the disease were removed on 5th May to the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. William Ross

Swine vesicular disease controlled area restrictions imposed over the greater part of England and the whole of Wales were removed on 6th May 1974. The restrictions did not apply to any part of Scotland. From 6th May to 5th July there have been five outbreaks of the disease in Scotland.

Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is satisfied that the recent outbreak of swine vesicular disease is now under control.

Mr. Bishop

I have been asked to reply.

The last outbreak of swine vesicular disease in Scotland was confirmed on 1st July. The controlled area was lifted on 8th July when the outbreak was considered to be under control.
