HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 cc520-1W
35. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will send advice to local authorities and public bodies to economise on office building and administrative and unproductive expenditure in view of the current inflation and shortage of building resources.

Mr. Millan

In December 1973 local authorities and other public bodies were required to reduce their demands on resources, including a reduction in 1974–75 of 20 per cent. in capital formation. The energy industries and supporting infrastrcture and new house building were exempted from these reductions. Programmes of new construction have been adjusted accordingly. Local authorities and public bodies recognise the need to economise on current expenditure.
